Throughout his work in the corrections field, counseling, ministry, mentorship, and community service, Marquis encountered people carrying stories that were rarely heard beyond the walls of their circumstances — individuals who had made mistakes but still possessed purpose, whose experiences had broken them yet held lessons that could help someone else avoid the same pain.

That question became the beginning of Gateway Publishing. Marquis came to understand that every life carries a story, but not every story gets the opportunity to become a legacy. He believed those stories deserved to be developed, professionally presented, and placed into the hands of people who needed them.

The vision was never simply to put books on shelves. It was to put hope into hands. To give someone who feels lost a roadmap. To give someone who feels forgotten a voice. To give someone who has survived adversity a platform. And to remind people that their past may be part of their story, but it does not have to be the final chapter.
